The T. Schreiber Studio Theatre is proud to present The Pinter Project, directed by Terry Schreiber, running from February 2nd and through March 13th, 2005. The Project has been made possible by special permission from Harold Pinter, and will feature two classic Pinter plays, The Birthday Party and The Homecoming. The shows will be performed in rotating repertory, a first for the Schreiber Studio in its eighteen years of presenting Off-Off Broadway Theatre.
“After attempting to secure rights to these two plays over four years”, stated Mr. Schreiber, “I finally wrote directly to Mr. Pinter, explaining what we do at the Studio, our production goals, and guaranteed a carefully selected casting as to talent, age and type, and a quality production. I am deeply flattered by Mr. Pinter’s trust and could not be more excited by the progression of rehearsals at this point”.
The Birthday Party and The Homecoming were revolutionary plays of their day and belong in the cannon of great theatre works. These plays will take you on a journey of menace, betrayal, sexual longing, domination, control and primordial passions. The Homecoming offers a darkly comedic view of feminine power, while The Birthday Party explores the destruction of the artist by powerful authoritarian figures.
Performance Dates: The Birthday Party opens February 2 and closes March 12, 2005. The Homecoming opens February 3 and closes March 13, 2005. Each show will have 18 performances. Shows alternate performance nights and both shows are performed on Saturdays.
Harold Pinter, playwright: Recent productions of his plays in NYC include Betrayal and The Caretaker, both produced on Broadway by The Roundabout Theatre Company.
